HOLYOKE — Traffic slowed to a crawl along Interstate 91 North between Holyoke and Northampton for several hours Thursday morning after a crash in Holyoke involving a tractor-trailer and a car.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, troopers from its Northampton barracks responded at about 5:40 a.m. The driver of the vehicle, the sole occupant inside, was hospitalized as a result of the crash.

Troopers closed the freeway’s left lane as a result of the crash and implemented a temporary speed reduction, leading to miles of heavy traffic delays that backed up to Exit 15A in Holyoke. The road was reopened at approximately 11:06 a.m, a little more than five hours after police responded to the scene.
