After winning their first two games of the Massachusetts American Legion State Baseball Tournament, Belchertown Post 239 suffered the first loss of their entire summer season on Tuesday night.

Shrewsbury Post 397 scored five times in the bottom of the first inning and took down Belchertown 12-2 in a five-inning run-ruled winner’s bracket game at Fitton Field on the campus of Holy Cross in Worcester.

Belchertown will play Hudson in an elimination game on Wednesday at 4 p.m. back in Worcester, weather permitting.

Brady Perkins and Jake Waller had two hits apiece for Post 239, which ran the table during the regular season and District 3 tournament (with one tie) before suffering their first loss of 2024 on Tuesday. Shrewsbury led 7-0 after two innings, and took advantage of four Belchertown errors.

Waller drove in both runs with a hit in the top of the third inning to get Post 239 on the board and make it a 7-2 game.

Ian McDonald had the only other hit of the night for Belchertown. Chace Earle took the loss on the mound, allowing 10 runs (eight earned) in 2 1/3 innings with two strikeouts.

Shrewsbury and Lowell will play in the nightcap on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Shrewsbury is the only team of the four remaining without a loss. The double elimination tournament will continue through Thursday.
