EASTHAMPTON — Cultural Chaos: the unique alliterative name hints at a festival chock-full of art, music and fun — and that’s exactly what’s coming to downtown this weekend.

Easthampton’s annual street festival returns on Saturday from 12 to 5 p.m. in the city’s Cottage Street Cultural District. It will feature live music, performances, visual art and food. Admission to the festival is free and the event welcomes people of all ages.

Cultural Chaos highlights the town’s vibrant arts community by showcasing the creativity of artists, performers and vendors. The festival draws more than 10,000 attendees each year and is organized by Easthampton City Arts in collaboration with the Cottage Street Cultural District Committee. ECA also receives support from local sponsors and more than 100 volunteers.

Planning for Cultural Chaos begins in earnest in January, and this year promises to be special with Easthampton Cultural Arts celebrating its 20th anniversary of providing free public programming.

“It’s ECA’s 20th anniversary year, so we’re really thrilled to welcome people for a beautiful community celebration of arts and culture and food in our Cottage Street Cultural District,” said Pasqualina Azzarello, the arts and culture program director for the city of Easthampton and coordinator of Easthampton City Arts.

This year’s celebration will feature three stages of live music, BMX performances presented by Still Services, performances from SHOW Circus Studio, a puppet parade by Caravan Puppets and dance productions, among others.

Aside from being a celebration of local culture, Cultural Chaos is a meaningful economic driver for the city. A past survey conducted with the University of Massachusetts Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning program found that Cultural Chaos marked the highest grossing day of the year for local businesses open during the festival.

There is street parking available as well as lot parking at 50 Payson Ave., Cottage Street and Easthampton High School. Accessible parking spots can be found at the Payson Avenue lot, as well as free bike parking in partnership with the Friends of the Manhan Rail Trail.

“We’ve all just worked so hard to bring this vision to life and we encourage everyone to come out and celebrate in Easthampton this weekend,” said Azzarello.

A detailed schedule of events and listings of participating vendors and sponsors can be found on the Easthampton City Arts Facebook page.
