Easthampton wins 11U Little League softball state championship

Jocelyn Mettey was nearly untouchable in leading Easthampton to a 11U Little League state championship.

She struck out 22 Wyoma hitters across two shutouts Saturday in Westfield, allowing one total hit.

Easthampton won the first game 13-0 in four innings, as Mettey threw a no-hitter with one walk.

She also had two hits and three RBIs.

McKenzie McCarthy hit a triple and drove in two runs in Game 1.

Kaylen Damon and Summer Collins each had an RBI.

In Game 2, Easthampton won 17-0 in four innings.

Mettey had 12 strikeouts and allowed one hit, while she hit two doubles and added four RBIs.

Abby McClaflin hit a three-RBI double.

Kaylie Downi added two RBIs, while Collins, Damon and Ashley Cortis all drove in runs.

The same group also won the 10U state title last year.

The team won’t play in a regional tournament because this is its first year in this division.

Intermediate New England Regional

Easthampton will play an elimination game Monday after splitting two games over the weekend in East Northport, New York.

The team will face either New York or New Jersey at 2 p.m.

Easthampton won its opening game Saturday, beating Gates (New York) 9-6.

Justin Colpack was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored. He hit a homer and two singles.

Nick Jolicoeur and Nick Lloyd added two hits and two RBIs each. Lloyd hit two home runs, while Jolicoeur had one.

Colin Larson, Ryan O’Leary, Otis Follet and Will Robbins each had a hit.

Easthampton’s second game on Long Island didn’t go as well. The team lost 14-2 to Hughsville (Maryland) on Sunday to drop into the losers bracket.

Colpack drove in a run, while Lloyd added two hits and two RBIs. Both hit a home run.

Larson and O’Leary added Easthampton’s other hits.
