EASTHAMPTON — This Thursday, Easthampton Media will present a screening of the documentary film “Four Winters” in honor of Jewish American Heritage Month.
At a recent City Council meeting on May 1, city officials voted to recognize May as Jewish American Heritage Month in the city of Easthampton, recognizing the contributions and complex histories of Jewish American community members.
In celebration of Jewish American Heritage Month, the Jewish Federation of Western Massachusetts in partnership with Easthampton Media will welcome a limited number of community members to view the film for free.
“I saw this a few months ago,” said City Councilor Owen Zaret in an announcement about the showing. “It is an awe-inspiring documentary of bravery and resistance from a generation that is almost gone.”
The film tells the stories of Jewish fighters who led resistance efforts against Adolf Hitler’s forces during the Holocaust, called Partisans. The award-winning film tells these stories featuring interviews, personal photographs, journal entries, and more.
“Our history must not contain only tragedy. We cannot allow that,” says Chayele Palevsky, one of the film’s featured Partisans. “It must also have heroic struggles, self-defense, war, even death with honor.”
The viewing will take place at the Easthampton Media office in Eastworks at 6 p.m. Tickets can be reserved at jewishwesternmass.crowdchange.co, and are limited to two tickets per person.
