Friday’s high schools: South Hadley boys tennis wins finale to qualify for postseason

The South Hadley boys tennis team battled the elements and West Springfield to qualify for the postseason with a 4-1 win over the host Terriers Friday.
South Hadley (10-9) needed to win its regular season finale to reach the tournament.
The Tigers overcame two first-set deficits to win.
Connor Barbacki rallied after dropping the first set to beat Joshua Alstede 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 at second singles.
The first doubles team of Nathan Piligian and Gavin Lipp came from behind to beat Shane Wilkinson and Dan O’Toole 0-6, 7-6, 6-4.
Sabis 4, Smith Academy 3 — Maggie Hession (double) and Liv Cavanaugh each went 2-for-3 with a run scored, but the Falcons (5-13, 5-7 Bi-County West) fell in Springfield in their season finale.
Karlie Guimond and Taeghan Cavanaugh (double) each had one hit in defeat. Emma Hobert had an RBI.
Sabis scored three in the seventh for the walk-off.
