GRANBY — A Granby man was arrested Saturday on seven charges including assault, threatening to commit murder and possession of a class C drug with intent to distribute following an incident near his apartment.

According to the Northwestern district attorney’s office, Matthew Tarczynski, 43, allegedly threatened two individuals napping in a car in the parking lot of the apartment complex on New Ludlow Road where he lives. He allegedly threatened the two people with what appeared to be a gun and called them a racial epithet, leading to a charge of assault to intimidate, a civil rights violation.

The two individuals in the car called 911 and went to the police station, where they presented cellphone video they had taken during the encounter. Police subsequently arrested Tarczynski and then executed a search warrant for his apartment, which uncovered possession of cocaine and two BB pistols, leading to additional charges.

Tarczynski pleaded not guilty in Eastern Hampshire District Court on Monday. He is being held without bail until a dangerousness hearing on Thursday, upon the recommendation of Northwestern Assistant District Attorney Rachel Lauder. Tarczynski is being represented by defense attorney Robert LaFlamme.

The Granby Police Department, State Police troopers attached to the Northwestern district attorney’s office, and members from the Northwestern District Attorney’s Anti-Crime Task Force assisted in the investigation.
