AMHERST — The splash pad at Groff Park is reopened after repairs were completed Wednesday afternoon by the Department of Public Works.

The repairs were finished after a replacement motor that had been ordered arrived in town.

While the spray park is back open for the first time in July, the restroom facilities at both Groff Park and Puffer’s Pond remain closed.

The bathrooms aren’t operational due to a water main break near the Mill Lane site.

At Puffer’s Pond off State Street in North Amherst, the latest tests, completed Tuesday, show continued elevated levels of E. coli bacteria. The pond remains closed for swimming, though people can use the beach and the trails nearby.

Water samples are collected and tested from both the north and south beaches, and even if one tests as safe and within the normal E. coli bacteria range, the entire pond is closed to swimming out of an abundance of caution, according to town officials.

Amherst’s pools, including the full-size War Memorial Pool and Mill River Recreation Area Pool, and the wading pool at Mill River, all remain open.
