Cameron Graves scored a season-high 17 points, and the Smith Academy boys basketball team turned a 19-16 halftime lead into a 44-40 victory over Hampshire Regional in Hampshire League North action on Friday night in Westhampton. The game was tied headed into the fourth quarter before the Falcons won the final eight minutes 14-10.

A Raiders win would have clinched them a Division 4 state tournament berth, but they’ll have to wait at least one more game to punch their ticket.

Graves converted eight field goals and added one free throw for the Falcons, which improved to 11-6 following their third consecutive triumph. Garret Willard (eight points), Rowan Jeffress (seven points), Ryan McCoy (six points) and Jake Wilcox (six points) also lent a hand offensively for Smith Academy.

Braylon Jarrett scored 16 points for the host Hampshire Raiders, followed up by seven points from Koleton Kolodziej and five points apiece from Jack Wresen and Joe Moro.

Both teams will play their season finales’ next week.

West Springfield 57, Amherst 51 — Another night, another close defeat for the ‘Canes as they were outscored 18-12 in the fourth quarter after being tied at 39 through three.

Samuel Woodruff went off for 25 points in the loss.

Chicopee Comp 73, Holyoke 53 — The Purple Knights surrendered 25 points in the third quarter while only scoring a dozen, and they never could get back in the game as they dropped to 12-3 with Friday night’s loss.

Hoosac Valley 63, Belchertown 58 — They hung tough in a hostile road environment, but the Orioles couldn’t make enough plays down the stretch in a close loss to Hoosac Valley.

Brice Letendre scored 21 points for Belchertown while Kyle Dunigan scored 11.

PVCICS 48, Pathfinder 38 — Nate Tuttle (14), Lobsang Rabten (12) and Grafton Tolopko (10) all scored in double digits for the Dragons on Friday night as they improved to 7-7 on the season.

PVCICS held Pathfinder to six points in the second quarter and four points in the third.

Drury 64, Frontier 50 — Drury’s Jorge Bond went off for 34 points to lead Drury past the Redhawks in South Deerfield on Friday. 

Max Millette finished with 24 points, Garett Dredge scored 11 points, Alex Ellis recorded nine points while Eric Larsson added four points in the loss for Frontier. 

Pioneer 79, Hopkins 29 — The Panthers raced out to a 24-5 advantage that ballooned to 42-10 at halftime.

Chace Earle (12 points), Jack Cycz (eight points) and Matthew Vassallo (six points) did the bulk of Hopkins’ scoring on Friday night.

Gateway 52, St. Mary’s 50 — The Gators (1-12) picked up their first win of the season in a nailbiter over the Saints on Friday night.

Gateway avenged an earlier loss to St. Mary’s this season, when it fell 52-45 back on Jan. 6.

Girls basketball

Northampton 55, West Springfield 30 — Senior Night went according to plan for the Blue Devils, as their two graduating players (Bri Heafey and Teagan McDonald) combined for 18 points in a decisive win in Northampton on Friday night.

Heafey had 12 while McDonald tossed in six. Anna Oravec scored a team-high 16 for the Blue Devils and Emme Calkins had 14 points.

Hampshire 36, Westfield 27 — The Raiders and Bombers were tied entering the fourth quarter on Friday night, but a 16-7 difference in the final frame propelled Hampshire to its 11th victory of the season.

Julianne Moro tossed in a game-high nine points, Addie Miklasiewicz added seven and Alyssa Colon-Garcia chipped in six points for the Raiders.

Granby 59, Hopkins 35 — Kalli White played exceptional en route to 27 points and 15 rebounds as the Rams ran away with Friday night’s contest. Autumn Sicard (three 3s) joined White in double figures with 11 points.

Maggie Potter had 13 points and Morgan Augustin (11 points) splashed a trio of 3s to pace Hopkins. Granby held the Golden Hawks to nine second-half points.

South Hadley 62, Monson 38 — The Tigers exorcised some demons after their 12-game winning streak was snapped earlier this week, routing the Mustangs by 24 on Friday night to claim the Suburban League title for the second straight year.

Cara Dean scored 13 points, Ava Asselin added 11 and Kate Phillips scored eight points in a game where 10 different South Hadley players scored.

Chicopee Comp 57, Belchertown 48 — After leading 28-19 at halftime, the Orioles were outscored 38-20 over the final 16 minutes as they dropped their fifth game in six tries.

Morghan Litz netted a team-high 15 points, Chloe LaRoche scored 11 and Logan Moses had 10 points for Belchertown.

Smith Vocational 46, Baystate Academy 22 — A 15-4 advantage after one quarter was all the Vikings needed to capture momentum and race to a win on Friday night in Springfield.

Sofia Zina (12 points), Makayla Tatro (eight points) and Nyia Marie-Forbes (eight points) contributed offensively for Smith Voc.
