High Schools: PVCICS boys soccer scores twice in final minute to tie Hampden Charter

Hampden Charter led PVCICS boys soccer 5-3 as the seconds ticked down on Friday afternoon in Chicopee, but the visitors erupted in the frantic final minute, scoring twice to salvage a 5-5 draw.

Nolan Gage scored two goals for the Dragons and James Scott, Sean Wallace and Patrick Canavan-Gosselin scored once each. Canavan-Gosselin also provided two assists and Nate Tuttle added another. Goalie Damian Loinaz made eight saves.

PVCICS moves to 4-1-2 with the result. The Dragons play next at Franklin Tech on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Wahconah 2, Easthampton 0 – Sam Barr made six saves in a shutout loss for the Eagles.

Hopkins 2, Franklin Tech 1 – Nathan Rickles tabbed a goal and an assist and Dillon Hughes also scored to lead the Golden Hawks to a tight win on Friday. 

Frontier 7, Mahar 0 – Grayden Gifford scored twice and Frontier got goalscoring contributions from Ben Cachiguango, Eric Larsson, Ian Paciorek and Carter Miller. TJ Donovan dished out two assists.

Girls soccer

Amherst 10, Chicopee 1 – The ‘Canes rocketed to a dominant victory at home on Thursday, powered by six goals from Madeline Hockman, three from Beatrice Eggemeir and one from Emma Miller.

Northampton 7, Granby 0 – The Blue Devils beat the Rams by seven goals for the second time this season, behind three goals from Olivia Busone, two from Willow Claps and one each from Allie Sullivan and Lilah Sage. Malia Silver delivered two assists and Teagan McDonald, Margaux Galvin, Sage, Busone and Claps added one each. Granby goalie Meredith Bartosz made 11 saves, while Northampton goalie Annalise Oravec made three and teammate Imanni Power-Greene made two.

Greenfield 4, Frontier 3 – Maddie Fagan scored twice and added an assist, but it wasn’t enough for the Redhawks to get past the Green Wave. Calli Gifford added a goal and Carly Robertson and Skyler Steele tallied assists. 

Field hockey

Hampshire 1, Amherst 1 – The Raiders and the ‘Canes battled to a draw in a County matchup Friday afternoon. Annie Haugsjaahbink scored for Amherst and Neely Rondeau scored for Hampshire, off an assist from Chloe Moynihan. Amherst goalie Eden Pucik made four saves and Hampshire goalie Rylie Simmons made five.

Southwick 6, Smith Academy 1 – Alexa Jagodzinski scored the Falcons’ lone goal and Madison Didonna-Renner made one save in net.

Northampton 2, Mahar 0 — Haly Doucette-Kaplan tallied in the first quarter and the third quarter for the Blue Devils, who beat the Senators in Orange Friday. 

Golf

Franklin Tech 171, Easthampton 201 – Amelia Gruber led Easthampton with a 48 on Friday at the par-36 course at Holyoke Country Club.  Aiden Subocz and Nico Francis followed with 50s and Evan Kalin and Brady McGinn-Stevens scored 53s.
