High Schools: South Hadley golf wins tiebreaker over Ludlow

For the second year in a row, a golf match between South Hadley and Ludlow came down a tiebreak. And for the second year in a row, the Tigers came out on top, with Justin Moskal’s 44 in the No. 5 spot beating out Ludlow’s No. 5 Noah Baghat by a single stroke. South Hadley moves to 11-2 with the 163-163 decision.
Ryan MacGregor scored medalist honors with a 36 to lead the way at Ledges Golf Club. Teammates Liam Yates (40), Luke Guiel (43) and Caiden Drohan (44) got South Hadley to the tiebreak, and Moskal finished it off.
The Tigers are back at Ledges for another home match on Friday when they take on Easthampton at 3 p.m.
Frontier 173, Amherst 188 – Ben Scott paced Amherst with a 36, but Frontier’s group Brady Wood (41), Cam Skiffington (42), Ryan Cetto (43), Christian Powell (47) and Tyler Galenski (47) led the Redhawks to their 11th win of the season in 15 tries. After Scott, Amherst got scoring from Nate Ziomek (41), Owen Howard (51) and Vito Scutari (51).
Belchertown 163, Ware 192 – The Orioles secured their 10th win of the season on Thursday at Cold Spring Country Club, led by Michael Murray, who shot a 34 (-2). Belchertown also received contributions from Daniel Hulmes (42), Jared Haynes (43) and Nathan Fink (44).
Hampshire 157, Northampton 169 – Ashton Lashway recorded the low score of the day with a 37, followed by teammates Brayden Fennessy (38), Riley Florek (39) and Cam Jarosz (43). Reilly Fowles led Northampton with a 39, followed by Max Sturdevant (41), Jack Carpenter (44) and Cory Keel (45). Hampshire improves to 16-2 and Northampton drops to 8-6.
Athol 180, Hopkins Academy 187 – Ryley Regan led the Golden Hawks with a 34 on Thursday at Ellinwood Country Club.
SICS 5, Smith Academy 2 – Falcons goalie Madison Zononi stopped an astounding 17 shots, but four first-half goals from SICS were too much for Smith Academy to overcome on Thursday in Springfield. Caitlin Graves and Anna Scagel both tallied in the second half for Smith Academy, while Graves and Emma Czarniecki picked up assists.

Belchertown 10, Holyoke 2 – The Orioles won big on Thursday, behind two goals each from Molly Mazzaferro, Edith Audette and Gianna Zenon and one goal each from Kina Roy, Kian Roy, Emma Kornbluth and Natalie Haluch. Mya Philpott totaled four assists, Audette added a pair, and Kian, Kina, Haluch and Addi DiBona contributed one each. Gracie Chesmore and Ella Ramoth scored for the Purple Knights, off assists from Garcia Brito and Kylie Blaha.
Franklin Tech 3, Hampshire 0 – Rylie Simmons made 24 saves, but Franklin Tech dropped Hampshire to 1-6-2 on Thursday in Westhampton.
Northampton 0, Mohawk Trail 0 – The Blue Devils move to 3-6-3 after a tie on the road Thursday afternoon.
Smith Voc 3, Renaissance 2 – The Vikings earned their seventh straight win Thursday, turning in a 25-12, 9-25, 25-20, 16-25, 15-13 decision to move them to 9-2. Abby Desrochers recorded two aces, two assists, 30 digs and eight kills, Katelyn Fedora totaled two aces, seven blocks, two assists, 10 digs and five kills and Heidymar Diaz-Lopez added three aces, 25 assists, 10 digs and seven kills.
South Hadley 3, Hampden Charter 0 – Grace Matyszewski led the Tigers with eight kills and Milana Stefaglo delivered 16 assists in South Hadley’s third straight win on Thursday in Chicopee.

Northampton 3, Chicopee Comp 0 — Will Senn-McNally put home the first goal of the game in the opening 40 minutes before Derek Rivers and Tate Norsen added a goal each in the second half to give the Blue Devils a decisive victory.
Norsen, Sam Busone and Bishop Loughrey tallied one assist apiece as Northampton bounced back from its first loss of the year in style. Salem Gregory made two saves in goal.
