High schools: Northampton field hockey hangs tough in 1-0 loss to Greenfield

NORTHAMPTON — Just one goal separated the Northampton field hockey team from powerhouse Greenfield, as the visiting Green Wave received a first-half goal from Riley Thayer and held on for a 1-0 independent win on Monday.
Northampton goalie Charlotte Johnson-Mersack made five saves in net.
Westfield 6, Smith Academy 0 – Madison Didonna-Renner made nine saves in net for the Falcons on the road.
Hampshire 1, Pope Francis 1 – In a battle of two of the top teams in Western Mass., the Raiders capped off an unbeaten regular season with a 1-1 draw in Springfield on Monday.
Hampshire, which finished its regular season 13-0-3, will be the No. 1 seed in this week’s Western Mass. Class B Tournament.
Mahar 5, Easthampton 1 — Lucas Isrow buried a hat trick, and Dom Whitman added the other two goals for the Senators in a tidy 5-1 victory on Monday.Kaden Garvey scored Easthampton's goal.
Sam Connors notched two assists while Isrow and Whitman also dished out helpers for Mahar.
Granby 1, Easthampton 0 – Kalli White tallied the game’s only goal, helping the Rams to a key late-season victory on Monday.

McCann 0, Smith Voc 0 – The Vikings didn’t allow a goal for the 12th consecutive game, earning a 0-0 draw on Monday in Northampton.
Since starting the season 0-2, Smith Voc hasn’t allowed a goal since Sept. 13. The club has gone 10-0-2 since then, outscoring opponents by a 68-0 margin.
The Vikings (10-2-2) now turn their attention to the Western Mass. Class C tournament, which begins later this week.
Central 2, Holyoke 1 – Kyra Lippman continued to rack up the goals, scoring the lone tally for the Purple Knights in Monday’s loss.
Jayvah Stuckey made five saves in net for Holyoke.
Hopkins 8, Taconic 0 – The Golden Hawks secured a league title and undefeated mark in the league via an 8-0 drubbing of Taconic on Monday.
Sadie Cyr tallied twice and assisted on two others for Hopkins Academy (12-2-2), while Ephie Vissas, Kiely Kinchla, Cassidy Fyden, Julianna Eichenlaub, Helen Vissas and Morgan Augustin also scored in the win.
Tantasqua 3, Belchertown 0 – Michaela Dubey made 10 saves in net for the Orioles in an independent loss on Monday.
South Hadley at East Longmeadow, 7
Monson 5, Northampton 1 – Willow Claps scored the lone Blue Devils goal on a feed from Olivia Busone.
Giselle Ohm stopped nine shots in goal in the Northampton loss.
Girls soccer
Belchertown 1, Ni pmuc 1 — Madysen LePage tallied for the Orioles, assisted by Mia Corish in a 1-1 draw on Saturday.
Goalies Michaela Dubey and Jillian DeBarge combined to make 11 saves in net for Belchertown.
Field hockey
Franklin Tech 3, Belchertown 0 — Brooke Stelmokas made six saves in net for the Orioles, which dropped a County League game for the first time all season on Sunday in Turners Falls.
Boys soccer
Frontier 5, SICS 0 — Rosco Palmer buried a four-pack of goals, and the Redhawks cruised to a 5-0 win over Springfield International over the weekend.
Gus Radner also scored for Frontier, while Nico Fasulo assisted on two goals. Chanmin Son and Palmer also added helpers, and the goalkeeping tandem of Owen Babb (five saves) and Jack Cusson (four saves) combined for the shutout in net.
South Hadley 2, Chicopee 2 — Nolan Masse and Michael Garand tallied for the Tigers, with assists from Jackson Keller and Moki Kovacs
Goalie Noah Carillon made eight saves for South Hadley.
Hampshire 4, Westfield 1 — Dan Martin netted two goals, including a penalty kick, in a 4-1 win over Westfield on Saturday.
Aidan Miklasiewicz and Aidan Moynahan also tallied for Hampshire, with Miklasiewicz recording two assists and Martin also adding a helper.
Colin Holt made six saves for the Raiders.
