High schools: Northampton girls tennis takes down South Hadley (PHOTOS)

No. 2 singles player Summer Sorenson (6-3, 2-6, 6-4) and the No. 2 doubles team of Louisa Dice and Giselle Ohm (6-2, 2-6, 6-1) both won third sets to lift the Northampton girls tennis team to a 4-1 win over South Hadley on Thursday at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley.
No. 1 singles Daria Warren (6-0, 6-0) and the No. 1 doubles team of Annalisa Agliotti and Julia Krivoy-Einhorn (6-1, 7-5) also won for the Blue Devils.
South Hadley’s Yanna Stefoglo got the lone win for the Tigers in No. 3 singles (6-1, 6-1).
East Longmeadow 3, Amherst 2 – No. 1 singles Sofia DaSilva-Askew (6-2, 6-0) and No. 3 singles Emma Leonard-Miller (6-1, 6-1) won their matches for the ‘Canes in a tight loss to East Longmeadow.
PVCICS 5, Frontier 0 – The Dragons swept Frontier led by No. 1 Hugo Shinn (6-0, 6-0) who won in straight sets.
No. 2 singles Aiden Cleary (6-2, 6-4) and No. 3 singles Clayton English (6-0, 6-2) captured wins in their matches, as did the No. 1 doubles team Teddy and James Scott (6-0, 6-1) and No. 2 doubles team Derek and Devan Ye (6-4, 10-5).
Smith Voc 12, Mahar 0 – James Lavallee struck out five and allowed just four hits as the Vikings picked up yet another shutout victory on Thursday in Orange.
Smith Voc’s Rosco Palmer paced the offensive attack with a home run as part of a three-RBI outing. Marshall Ingram and Carter Blanchette (triple) each had two hits in the win, as the Vikings scored four runs in the top of the first inning to set the tone.

Hampshire 9, Athol 6 – Jack Boyle struck out eight over six innings to win his fourth game on the mound, as the Raiders clipped Athol, 9-6, to improve to 10-2 overall.
Edward Przybyla tossed a scoreless seventh for the save, striking out two, and added two hits, including a double, and an RBI at the plate. Drew Thompson was 3-for-3 with a home run for Hampshire, and Liam Pond added two hits and scored twice.
South Hadley 12, Ludlow 2 (5) – Ryan Netkovick had two hits and three runs and Matthew Drobiak had a pair of hits and RBIs in the Tigers win.
Pitcher Justin Moskal got the win, striking out five batters in three innings.
Easthampton 8, Chicopee 3 – The Eagles built a 7-0 lead and held off Chicopee for a victory on Thursday.
Sophia Faginski went the distance in the circle, striking out four and walking a pair in seven innings. Haley Routhier was 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs to pace the Easthampton offense, while Abigail McClaflin smacked two hits and scored three runs.
Greenfield 21, Frontier 0 (5) – Liv Machon struck out three for the Redhawks in a five-inning loss to defending state champion Greenfield. Green Wave ace MacKenzie Paulin tossed a five-inning no-hitter.
Lenox 8, Amherst 3 – The Hurricanes suffered their first loss of the season on Thursday, falling to 9-1 on the year with the 8-3 defeat.
Sofia Holden struck out 14 in the circle for Amherst, and she added two hits at the plate. Maria Konieczny also had two hits for the hosts, as did Riana Shaw and Ariana Texidor-Melendez.
Longmeadow 20, Northampton 7 – Caroline Riordan went 3-for-4 with a double and scored three runs. Sasha Rodriguez hit a home run and Sophia Band and Mattea Hernandez had a single and plated for the Blue Devils.
Kaliya Valentin struck out five batters in the circle.
Smith Voc 21, Putnam 5 (5) – Annalise Kaczenski tripled and Josilyn Dubay smacked a home run for the Vikings.
Jaycee Beaulieu plated three times for Smith Vocational in a five-inning victory.
Pope Francis 13, Granby 12 – The Cardinals rallied from an 8-4 halftime deficit, outscoring Granby by a 9-4 margin in the second half to earn the tight victory.
Ella Laliberte lifted the Rams on her back offensively, burying 11 goals and an assist in another huge outing. Brenna Moreno also tallied for Granby, and McKenna Zumbrowski notched an assist. Faith Ramos made five saves in net.
Wahconah 8, Belchertown 3 – Paige Magner scored twice and Samantha Pacuncas netted one goal in the Orioles’ loss.
Belchertown goalie Emma Almeida made one save.
Longmeadow 17, Northampton 3 – Eloise Ruberti scored all three of Northampton’s goals on Thursday evening.
Goalies Riley Shea and Ainsley Dawson made four and two saves, respectively, for the Blue Devils.
Frontier 99, Mohawk Trail 45 – Caroline Crocker and Abigail Howard won three individual events apiece and helped the Redhawks relays in a Frontier dual meet win on Thursday.
Crocker took first in the long jump (15-5.5), 100 hurdles (15.72) and 200 dash (28.1) and was also part of the winning 4x100 meter relay with Eve Dougan, Anna Petrin and Maddy Fagan (54.9).
Howard won the mile (5:55.4), the high jump (4-6) and the 800 (2:46.3) and was on the 4x400 team with Claire McFarland, Nicole Plasse and Maddie Antes that won with a time of 4:46.6.
Frontier 3, Sci-Tech 0 — Owen Babb tallied eight kills while Aleks Carey and Brady Burch each put down five kills as the Redhawks picked up win No. 12 on the year with a 25-18, 25-20, 25-18 triumph over the CyberCats in Springfield on Thursday.
Tavo Vincent-Warner distributed 21 assists while Jesse Kurkulonis and Asa Jackson contributed three kills in the victory.
E. Longmeadow 3, Granby 2 – Setter Jake Gagnon dished out 44 assists in a busy five-set outing for the Rams on Thursday.
Set scores were 25-19, 16-25, 25-27, 25-23, 15-12.
Michael Swanigan powered down 26 kills to pace the Rams offense, while Robert L’Abbee racked up seven kills and Hao Pham added six.
Nolan Puglisi struck out 10 on the mound and slugged a two-run home run at the plate in the first inning to help the Williston Northampton baseball team to a 10-0 win over Suffield on Wednesday.
The victory earned the Wildcats a spot in the WNEPBL playoffs. Colin Larson was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base in the win.
Elsewhere, the girls golf team notched a 3-2 win over Westminster but fell to Loomis and Choate in a quad match. Pimm Kanchanatip won all three of her matches, while Mayphia Zhou and Pimm were co-medalists with rounds of 49.
The varsity girls lacrosse team picked up a 17-7 victory over NMH behind six goals from Liv Ferebee. Scarlette Graybill and Louisa Coughlin each added four goals, and Hazel Jacobs made eight saves.
Behind four goals from Joseph Killcommons, the varsity boys lacrosse earned a decisive 20-4 win at Suffield. Tate Kuster won 14-of-19 faceoffs and Jack Morrison made 13 saves.
The girls water polo team earned a decisive 14-1 win at Hopkins behind solid defense by Juno Aselton (10 saves). Maisie Mattocks had four goals and two assists, while Kaitlyn Williams added three goals.
The boys’ varsity golf team avenged an early season one-stroke loss with a four-stroke victory over Suffield at Ledges GC in South Hadley. It was a strong team effort with solid scores by Eric Carter with a 40 and Nick Nader and Brayden Deschamps each with 41.
The Williston ultimate team jumped out to an early 8-0 lead and picked up a 15-7 win over Deerfield. Twelve different players caught or threw a score.
The boys track and field team moved to 9-0 on the season with wins over WMA, KO, Watkinson and Millbrook. The girls team also moved to 7-2 on the year with wins over Watkinson and Millbrook.
