High schools: Amherst, South Hadley boys soccer teams earn non-playoff wins

A pair of goals from Abdi Byl-Brann helped the Amherst boys soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Chicopee Comp on Friday in a non-playoff contest.

It was the second straight win for the Hurricanes (4-10-4), which likely saw their season come to an end. Amherst was No. 43 in the most recent MIAA Division 2 Power Rankings.

Patrick Staudenmayer also found the back of the net in the win for the ’Canes.

South Hadley 1, Wahconah 0 — Jack Chagnon tallied with an assist from Nolan Masse, and the Tigers kept their state tournament hopes alive with a win on Friday.

South Hadley (7-8-2) can earn an automatic berth in the MIAA Division 4 state tourney with a win on Monday against Lenox.

Goalie Noah Carillon made four saves in net for the shutout. The Tigers are 2-0-1 in their last three tilts.

Greenfield 3, Easthampton 2 — Gabe Growhoski and Sean Hopkins scored for the Eagles in a road loss in Greenfield on Friday.

Easthampton finished its season 4-12-2 overall.

Non-playoff games

Frontier 2, Central 0 — The Redhawks capped their season with a 2-0 victory on Friday.

Maddie Fagan and Skyler Steele scored first-half goals for Frontier (8-9-1), which missed qualifying for the state tournament by one point. Maddie Bennett and Jillian Worden added assists, and Jocelyn Antes stopped all six shots she faced to pick up the team’s third shutout of the season.

Smith Voc 3, Mahar 0 — A hat trick from Monique Fredette propelled the Vikings to a non-playoff win on Friday.

Caitlin Willard, Erin Miller and Katelynn Hennessy all added assists for Smith Voc, and goalie Maggie Lauder stopped four shots to earn the shutout.

Boys soccer

Gateway 2, Mount Everett 2 — The Gators erased a two-goal halftime deficit to earn a 2-2 draw on Thursday afternoon. Brothers Ivan and Eli Chepurenko were the two goal scorers for Gateway, and Sean Kingsley and Ivan Chepurenko added assists.

In the box for the Gators was Zack Hess, who stopped four shots on six attempts in the tie.

Girls soccer

Holyoke 5, Frontier 1 — Five different Purple Knights players found the back of the net as they fought past Frontier 5-1 on Thursday. Tryanna Ayala, Emma Shoup, Kyra Lippman, Yasani Thompson, and Leilany Figueroa scored one goal each.

Jaylene Moquin, Selina Alicea, Shoup, and Lippman (two) registered assists for Holyoke. Carly Robertson added the lone Frontier goal assisted by Jazzy Hayes.
