High schools: Northampton girls soccer rolls to season opening win over Granby

The Northampton girls soccer team came out of the gate hot in their opening match of the season, putting eight goals past Granby Tuesday evening to snag an 8-1 Central Division victory at David Wright Stadium in Northampton.
The Blue Devils (1-0) led 3-0 at the break and then broke the game open with five more goals in the second half.
Livi Busone put up a hat-trick of goals and Olive Little put up a hat-trick of assists, plus a goal of her own. Allie Sullivan and Willow Claps also scored twice each. Claps and Sullivan each notched an assist. Malia Silver, Alysha Parshall-Matylas and Margaux Galvin also tallied helpers.
Kalli White tallied Granby’s lone goal in the second half.
In goal, Anna Oravec made a save and Immani Power-Greene made a pair of stops.
Easthampton 2, Hoosac Valley 0 – Mackenzie Coffey and Sonia Romero handled the scoring for the Eagles, which opened the season with a tidy 2-0 victory on Tuesday.
Easthampton led 1-0 at halftime on Coffey’s goal from Noella Ryan in the 17th minute. Romero made it 2-0 with a goal in the 77th minute from Samone Young. Goalie Addie Barr made one save to preserve the clean sheet.
Amherst 7, Chicopee 0 – Madeline Hockman scored four times, three of them unassisted, to lead the ‘Canes to a resounding win in their opener.

Amherst led 4-0 at halftime.
West Springfield 1, Belchertown 0 – Owen Hall netted the game’s lone goal in the first half, as the Terriers clipped the Orioles on Tuesday.
Belchertown goalie Jack Mandeville made nine saves.
Hampshire 4, Westfield 1 – New coach, no problem.
New Raiders coach Brad Miller picked up his first win at Hampshire thanks to a brace from Eli Fern.
Owen Miller scored once and tallied two helpers and Joseph Moro also scored once.
Smith Academy 3, Mahar 0 – Sophia Jagodzinski notched an assist in the second quarter and scored in the fourth quarter (off an assist from her sister Alexa) in a season-opening road win for the Falcons.
Bella Gavron also scored an unassisted goal. Madison Didonna-Renner made a pair of saves in goal.
Belchertown 174, Amherst 203 – Michael Murray paced the pack at Cold Spring Country Club on Tuesday, firing a 1-over 37 to help the Orioles to victory.
Brady Jolly (43), Ryan Shea (46) and Daniel Hulmes (48) were the other scorers for Belchertown. Nate Ziomek (47) and Ben Scott (49) paced Amherst.
South Hadley 156, Chicopee Comp 204 – The Tigers had the four low rounds of the day, buoyed by Ryan MacGregor and Jameson Webber who shared medalist honors with rounds of 37 on Tuesday.
Caiden Drohan was right behind with a 38 for South Hadley, and Luke Guiel shot 44.
Hampshire 173, Ware 230 – Hampshire moved to 2-0 and posted the top four scorers in Tuesday’s match. Brayden Fennessey led the way with a 41, Ashton Lashway scored a 42, Cole Boissonneault scored a 44 and Colby Cabrini scored a 46.
Frontier 168, Monson 189 — Ryan Cetto was the match medalist with a 40, lifting the Redhawks to a triumph over the Mustangs at Quaboag Country Club on Tuesday.
Cam Skiffington (42), Addy Wood (43) and Brady Wood (43) rounded out the scoring for Frontier.
Franklin Tech 167, Hopkins 208 — Ryley Regan poured in the low round of the day for the Golden Hawks, firing a 34 to nab match medalist honors on Tuesday at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club in Turners Falls.
Pioneer 179, Easthampton 217 — Amelia Gruber paced Easthampton with a 41, just one stroke shy of medalist Brayden Thayer. Maeve Lohring shot a 57, Brady McGinn-Stevens shot a 59 and Kaden Cormier shot a 60.
Belchertown 3, Chicopee 0 – Vivian Ross dished out 16 assists as the Orioles swept to a season-opening win via scores of 25-19, 25-22, 25-22.
Melina David and Abby Almeida had five kills apiece for Belchertown, and Layla Liminski put down eight aces.
South Hadley 3, Southwick 1 – The Tigers started their season off on the right foot with a 25-11, 25-13, 17-25, 25-13 road win. Grace Matyszewski tallied 10 digs, seven aces and six kills. Ella Schaeffer had five kills, five aces, five digs and two blocks. Raquel Losty recorded 12 digs, five kills and two aces.
PV Christian 3, Easthampton 1 – Easthampton lost its season opener despite eight kills from Lidie Buttrick, six from Kierra Carson and five from Camilla Corsello. Brooke Skowron put up 17 assists and Addison Sigda recorded 10 digs.
Field hockey
Belchertown 7, Hampshire 0 — Lila Roy (three goals, one assist) and Edith Audette (two goals, two assists) each recorded four points in a massive shutout win for the Orioles to start their season on Monday.
Kina Roy and Natalie Haluch each found the back of the cage as well for Belchertown, while Kina Roy (two), Julia Rainaud and Chloe Moss all tallied assists in the victory.
Hamsphire’s Rylie Simmons stopped 14 shots in what was a valiant effort in goal.
Boys soccer
South Hadley 2, Amherst 2 — The Tigers and ‘Canes battled to a 2-2 draw on Monday afternoon.
South Hadley senior Moki Kovacs netted a goal on an assist from Matt Gillis and senior Jack Chagnon converted on a penalty kick to round out the Tigers scoring while Ellis Dubin and Daniel Nunez Saravia netted the two Amherst goals.
Tigers goalie Noah Carillon came up with seven saves in goal.
Frontier 2, Chicopee Comp 0 — Redhawk Eric Larsson broke the deadlock by blasting in a free kick in the second half to give Frontier the lead.
Ian Paciorek added a goal off an assist from Gus Radner to put it away, lifting the Redhawks to a victory over the host Colts on Monday. Jack Cusson stopped two shots in the triumph.
