We are all the good Samaritan.
In Luke, when Jesus told this story, the Samaritans were a small and despised group. The good Samaritan was simply responding to someone in desperate need along the roadway, not expecting or asking for recompense.
Engaging in our world with attentiveness to the needs of others is a healthy way to live our lives.
In fact, I believe we do this regularly because we share an openness of heart that is part of our natural human condition. We manifest genuine caring when we see we can offer help.
We don’t need rewards, praise or power from or over others. Many times we have extended our hand to others in need. Let our self-judgement go about the quality or frequency of our aid. Accept our next opportunity as it presents itself along the roadways of our daily travels. We have all been good Samaritans. It’s in our blood. Let’s embrace that part of ourselves and expect that generosity as part of our vital daily actions and interactions.
In the Light.
