Sarah Blum: Can Republican Party count on Trump’s 74 million voters?

Today, the Republican Party knows it can no longer count on the unquestioning loyalty of those 74 million voters to win a Trump victory in 2024. Viewing their candidate continually escorted by armed police, in and out of state and federal court rooms, on three possible criminal indictments, does not result in national voter confidence.

Thanks to the January 6 Committee’s historic, indisputable evidence, it seems fair to assume that most of the rational Trump voters, (those who are not still manipulated by Tucker Carlson and the Murdoch propaganda machine), are finally convinced of Trump’s direct responsibility for provoking the rioting and loss of life at the Capitol a terrifying reminder of World War II fascism and the end of ‘rule of law,’ in which free and fair elections are sacrificed.

In the end, that famous trite but true saying attributed to Lincoln is well worth recalling: “You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time, but you cannot fool all the people all of the time.”
