Christine and Jon Sass: Appreciates congressman’s fight against book bans

After reading U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern’s opinion piece in the Gazette on April 29 [“Standing against effort to ban books”], we want to express our appreciation for his leadership fighting against book bans and supporting our libraries. At a time when there is so much cynicism about our government, we are reminded that as a public official he has chosen to represent all of the people and is willing to speak up for those who are marginalized and ignored.

Rep. McGovern has consistently led others to see that government can be used to further peace and equity. We support his stands on issues like gun control, booking banning, LGBTQ rights and education even when they are not popular. We are fortunate to have him as our representative in Congress.
