I would like to set the record straight on why Question 1 calls for an audit of the Legislature. It is not unconstitutional to audit the Legislature. It has been done in the past. As an educator, I support transparency in our government. We have the least transparent Legislature in the country. This body is consistently last in the nation to file a budget so what are they doing with their time? The state auditor’s office can only report on what’s already happened, and has no authority to force any agency to come into compliance. It is not a transfer of power as some of our legislators have said. It is simply the ability to analyze processes, procedures, and finances, and then report to the public information that should be a matter of public record anyway!
