Sara Lennox: More about Northampton Neighbors' Laptop Program

As a Northampton Neighbors board member, I was pleased to see the Gazette’s Jan. 2 article publicizing NN’s very successful program of distributing laptops to our community members who cannot afford to buy their own [“Northampton Neighbors helps bridge digital divide at Walter Salvo House”].
But I’d like to add some information. Since the program began in 2022, we have distributed over 50 laptops. They have come from generous NN members who pass their older units along to us when they upgrade to newer ones. The Dennis Group did indeed provide the laptops that were given to the Walter Salvo House residents last week (for which we are very grateful!), and we’d be delighted to receive donations from other community members and organizations, too. If you have one or more laptops to donate, please email info@northamptonneighbors.org and we will be in touch with you.
In keeping with NN’s mission, laptops are given to residents of Northampton, Florence, and Leeds who are 55 or older and in need. Recipients should also be NN members, but it is easy and free to join online at www.northamptonneighbors.org or by calling 413-341-0160 and requesting a paper application.
Yes, we are happy that we can keep old laptops out of landfills, but we are even happier that we can help our fellow Northampton residents stay in touch digitally with friends, family and the larger world.
