Do you remember “The Godfather” franchise movies? For those who have not seen the movies, they were about a mob boss, his family, and their rise to power.

I keep thinking of the parallels our current president has with the Corleones. Trying to keep up with the egregious acts of President Trump on his first few days of office is like watching a three-hour movie with disbelief that the progression of events has happened. I keep telling myself, “only in the movies,” but no, it’s happening in real life.

The convicted criminals of the Jan. 6 insurrection are caricatures of criminals in movies. Some have horns, some have bare chests, some swinging sticks, or erecting poles to sacrifice government officials. Pardoning individuals who violently attempted to overthrow the government is something a mob boss does to acquire a bunch of unscrupulous foot soldiers, not a sitting president.

I sit on the edge of my seat and await the coming days. In the Godfather story, the new mob boss “eliminated” the heads of his rivals. I keep telling myself that it just doesn’t happen in real life, but I ask you this, can you put it past President 47?
