Northampton Post 28 picked up its sixth straight win with a 5-4 American Legion victory over Monson Post 241, Monday at Legion Field in Palmer.
After Monson tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth, Post 28 scored the winning run on a double steal. Devontay Edmonds took second while Jackson Heath (hit, three runs) stole home.
Catcher Travis Orszulak of Post 241 threw the ball away to center trying to pick off Edmonds at second, which allowed Heath to safely go home.
Nick Heafey was 1-for-2 with two RBIs, Andy Grygorcewicz was 1-for-4 with a run scored and Patrick Serio was 1-for-4.
Nate Moggio started and allowed three hits over three innings. Mike Baldwin pitched 2รขย ย innings in relief. Serio earned the win with 1รขย ย innings of relief.
Westfield Post 124 2, Greenfield Post 81 1 โ Owen Phelps struck out seven, walked one and allowed four hits, but Post 81 (6-2) fell on the road.
Greenfield tied the game in the fifth. Phelps singled and stole second base. Connor Waitkus drove him in with a two-out base hit.
Northampton 6, Westfield 1 โ Northampton (11-0) remained undefeated in Mickey Mantle following its home win.
Will Shaw (run), Owen Shelffo (two hits, two runs), Eddie Sarafin (two RBIs, run) and Jayden Darling (two hits, RBI) each doubled in the win. Seth Finnessey added a hit, run scored and an RBI.
Darling struck out four, walked five and allowed three hits over four innings for the win. Shelffo struck out four and allowed one hit in three innings of relief.
Catcher Nate Kelleher-Mochak was called up from the Sandy Koufax team due to injury and illness. Kelleher-Mochak three out two runners and took a throw from Sarafin to tag a runner out at the plate. He added a hit and an RBI as well.
Amherst 6, Mohawk 5 (9) โ Neil Cunniffe scored the winning run in the ninth as Amherst (4-6) walked off with a Sandy Koufax win.
Cody West pitched seven innings and was relieved by Jake Smith for the final two.
Ryan Schneider had four hits and four RBIs, Charlie May scored twice and Patrick Fitzgibbons had two hits and two runs.
Westfield 17, Northampton 3 (5) โ Despite the loss, Northampton marked its return to the 10-and-under District 2 Tournament for the first time in over 10 years when it hosted Westfield at Sheldon Field.
Nevaeh Fernandez, Jonni Gotay and Aโnaylah Johnston each scored a run in the fifth inning. Katie Monson had an RBI on a fielderโs choice.
Lucia Winters struck out five for Northampton (0-1), which plays at Agawam at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the second game of pool play.
