Local roundup: Amherst LL blanks Southampton, reaches District 2 semifinals

The Amherst 12U Little League team advanced to the District 2 semifinals after besting Southampton on Wednesday night to secure the No. 3 seed. 

Nolan Ingram and Cyrus Arwade combined to allow just two hits in a 7-0 shutout win. Ingram threw 4 2/3 innings and Arwade earned the save. 

Gus Garrett Peltier went 2-for-2 and Nick Stinson and Jackson Tease both scored in the bottom of the third to make it 3-0. 

Tristan Feeley, Jonah Sommers and Agho Mankin all picked up hits and scored in the fifth inning with Stinson adding a fourth run for Amherst’s final run. 

Amherst will play Longmeadow on Sunday in one of the District 2 semifinal. The finals are slated for Tuesday.

Mohawk 6, Amherst 3 — Mohawk exploded for five runs in the third inning to break a stalemate against Amherst and held on for the win on Wednesday. 

Neither team could reach home plate in the first two and a half innings. Mohawk’s three runs in the bottom of the third were matched by Amherst’s three runs in the top of the fourth when Owen Eddy, Josh Angers, JJ Scanlon-Dean, Josh Willette and Max Lashway all singled to get the team going.

Willett started the game on the mound for Amherst before Scanlon-Dean came on in relief for three innings, striking out five and allowing one run. Aiden Shea started for Mohawk before Brody Hicks came on as the closer, throwing the final inning with one strikeout. 

Caleb Dillensneider had a single and double for Mohawk, also scoring once and finishing with an RBI. The win improved Mohawk’s record to 11-1.
