An impressive run by the Amherst 12U All-Stars came to a close on Sunday night in Longmeadow.

The club’s Little League District 2 run came to a conclusion in the semifinals, as host Longmeadow notched a 3-0 victory at Strople Field.

Nolan Ingram threw 4 1/3 outstanding innings, and Cyrus Arwade got the final two outs of the fifth, but Amherst just couldn’t solve the Longmeadow pitching and defense.

Amherst threatened in the second and third off hits by Ingram and Jesse Drinker, but couldn’t push a run across.

The team ended its District 2 campaign at 4-3 overall, in third place behind Westfield and Longmeadow and ahead of Southampton, Belchertown, Agawam and Holyoke. Westfield and Longmeadow will meet in the final on Tueday.

PVYBL Sandy Koufax

Matt Vassallo reached base four times and scored four runs, helping Amherst to a 19-2 win over Ware in a PVYBL Sandy Koufax game on Friday at Memorial Field in Ware.

JJ Scanlon-Dean doubled twice for Amherst, driving in three runs. Owen Eddy drove in four runs for Amherst.

Referee instructional lessons

The Western Massachusetts Soccer Officials Association will conduct instructional classes for new scholastic soccer referees in August. Members of the WMSOA officiate scholastic games for the teams of public and private schools located in Hampshire and Franklin County. The scholastic season occurs during September, October and November.

The instructional course consists of six classes conducted during evening hours at the Deerfield Inn. Classes are scheduled at times that are convenient for the participants. The cost of the instructional course is $50. All WMSOA members must register with the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association and meet the background review standards of that organization.

Email Artie Burke (AEBurke11@verizon.net) if you would like to participate in the WMSOA course and become a scholastic soccer referee.
