Local roundup: Cody Gaida, Northampton Post 28 take down Longmeadow, 7-1

Cody Gaida tossed the opening four innings and scattered just three hits before Aiden Zera, Asher Garreston and Aiden Lococo each tossed an inning to close out a 7-1 win for Northampton Post 28’s American Legion Senior Division team against host Longmeadow on Monday night. 

Max Edwards knocked a single and a double while Lococo had a base hit, drew two walks and scored twice in the victory. 

Post 28 moved to 2-2 on the season. They’ll host Sheffield on Wednesday at Arcanum Field.

Youth baseball

Amherst Royals 4, Amherst Red Sox 3 – The Royals held on for a win last week in what was the last of the championship round-robin, which ended in a tie, with the Royals, Red Sox and Orioles all going 1-1 in the series.

Luke Levangie was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs over 4⅓ innings and Jack Bajnoci closed the game, striking out the last three batters in the bottom of the sixth with the tying tun on second.

Nick Stinson pitched scoreless fifth and sixth innings to keep the Sox withing striking distance. Oliver Howard was 3-for-3 with two singles and a triple and Agho Mankin had an inside-the-park home run for the Sox. 

Drew Carvel singled for an RBI and scored to aid the Royals, while Cyrus Arwade was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, Jack Bajnoci was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Jackson Tease also singled.
