Local roundup: Griffin Smiarowski pitches Northampton Post 28 past North Adams; West baseball team wins silver at Bay State Games

Griffin Smiarowski tossed a complete-game six-hitter, setting the tone as Northampton Post 28 defeated North Adams Post 125, 7-2, in an American Legion Senior Division baseball game on Friday night in Williamstown.
Smiarowski allowed two earned runs over seven innings, striking out two and walking a pair to pick up the victory.
Dom Badorini had two hits and two RBIs for Post 28 (7-4), while Max Edwards had two hits, scored three runs and also drove in a run in the win.
Northampton returns to action Saturday with another game in the Berkshires against Pittsfield Post 68 at 4:30 p.m. Post 28 will then host Westfield on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Belchertown 8, Aldenville 4 – Tyler McDonald drove in two runs for Post 239 in a road win.
Belchertown’s Ryan Decoteau (triple, two runs), Derek Gould (RBI) and Cody West (double) each knocked in two hits.
Andrew Fijal scored three runs for Post 239, while Joey Manowski added an RBI and a hit.
Aldenville’s Nate Carillon doubled among his two hits.

Frontier 11, Amherst 10 — Frontier returned back above the .500 mark in PVYBL action at 7-6 thanks to a tight victory on Thursday at Amherst Middle School.
Amherst struck first, with four runs in the first on singles by Matt Vassallo, Josh Angers, Greg King, Brady Klaes and Drew Holland. Nate Rickles started and pitched 3 1/3 innings for Amherst, giving up three runs and striking out five.
Frontier clawed back, scoring runs in each of the third through sixth innings, and going ahead for good by scoring four runs in the fifth.
Amherst pushed across three runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut Frontier's lead to one run, but left the tying and go-ahead runs on second and third. Owen Eddy hit a two-run triple for Amherst and scored two runs in the game.
The West baseball team received a silver medal after finishing second in the standings with a 4-1 record.
Coastal won the title at 4-0-1 and was the only team to defeat the West.
The West bested Southeast 14-1 on Friday and finished with the competition’s best run differential (plus-21). They also allowed the fewest runs (16), which was nine less than No. 2 Coastal (27).
The roster featured Belchertown’s Ian McDonald, Hampshire Regional’s Liam Pond, Andrew Thompson, Michael Thompson and Jack Boyle, Frontier’s Grayson Loos, Easthampton’s Topher Reardon, South Deerfield native Daniel Bussard of Williston Northampton and Westhampton native Andrew Gagne, who plays for Pope Francis.
