A pair of Orchards Golf Club members made the cut in the New England Women’s Amateur Championship at Haverhill Country Club on Wednesday afternoon. Julianna Megan and Ryley Regan each shot better than the 14-over cut line over the course of the first two days of competition to advance to Thursday’s final round.
Megan bogeyed the first two holes of her round on Wednesday before playing the rest of the front nine 1-over, including a birdie on the par-4 ninth. From there she posted a 4-over 40 on the back nine – giving her a round of 79 for the day. That put her four shots inside the cut.
Regan, from Granby, was stellar on Wednesday. The Hopkins Academy standout finished her front nine with four consecutive pars to put her at 3-over for the day, then bogeyed two of the first four holes on the back nine. After that, she put on a show.
Regan answered with a birdie on 14, parred 15 and 16 before carding another birdie on 17. She followed that up with a par on 18 to shoot an even-par 36 on the back nine and a 3-over 75 for the day.
On Tuesday, the hot weather forced a shortened first round of action. Groups went out early and played just nine holes instead of 18. Megan shot a 37 and Regan fired a 43 to start off their tournament. That puts Megan in a tie for 14th with a total of 8-over, and Regan in a tie for 17th at 10-over.
Thursday’s round begins at 9:10 a.m. and the leaders – Blue Hill Country Club’s Lillian Guleserian (2-under), eClub of Connecticut’s Amelie Phung (even par) and Vesper Country Club’s Maddie Smith (even par) – will round out the tee times at 11:10 a.m.
