NORTHAMPTON — A woman from Chester is the winner of a $2 million grand prize lottery ticket sold in Northampton last week, the first time a prize that large has been sold in the city since 2023.

Michelle Sivard’s winnings came from the Massachusetts State Lottery’s “$2,000,000 50X Cashword” instant ticket game.

She chose the cash option on her prize and received a one-time payment of $1.3 million before taxes. Sivard plans on putting the winnings towards her home and upgrading her car, according to an announcement from lottery officials.

She purchased her winning ticket at Cumberland Farms, 134 King St. in Northampton. The store will receive a $20,000 bonus for its sale of this ticket. The ticket was one of three sold in February that awarded more than $1 million, with the other two tickets sold in Braintree and Framingham.

The last time a winning ticket that lucrative was sold in Northampton was in 2023, when a $2.6 million ticket was purchased at the Zee Mart on Locust Street. A $500,000 ticket was sold in Northampton last month, at the Convenience Plus on Pleasant Street.
