Photos: Celebrating Holyoke’s schools

A day after the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education agreed to enter into a provisional agreement with the city  to end nearly a decade of school receivership by July 1, 2025,  Mayor Joshua Garcia, right, and School Committee members celebrated in Holyoke on Wednesday.  Garcia commended School Committee members, some of whom were waving pompoms at the celebration, for continuing to meet during receivership even though  the committee did not have control over the school system.

He  saluted Holyoke’s leaders and educational staff for strengthening the city’s educational experience. Morgan had been the first school to be labeled “chronically underperforming” in the city before the entire school district was placed under receivership.
