AMHERST — Restrooms at Groff Park, closed for more than a week due to a water main break, reopened on Wednesday.

The temporary repair to the bathrooms at the Mill Lane park comes about a week after the spray park was put back in operation.

Town officials, though, observe that the restroom building may need to be closed again in the coming weeks, with information to be posted on the town website when more repairs are scheduled.

While the splash pad and full-size pools at Mill River Recreation Area on Montague Road and War Memorial off Triangle Street are open, along with a wading pool at Mill River, Puffer’s Pond remains off limits for swimming due to continued high levels of E. coli bacteria. The latest samples, collected Tuesday from the North and South beaches and processed Wednesday, show elevated E. coli levels.

“There are many factors that could be contributing to this ongoing issue and the town is looking into causes and exploring long-term solutions,” a statement reads on the town website.

This marks the third week in a row that swimming is discouraged at the State Street location.
