It was a satisfying conclusion to an outstanding season for the Smith Vocational baseball team.

The top-seeded Vikings rallied from a late deficit with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, and held on for a 4-3 victory over Old Colony RVT in the championship game of the MVADA Small School Tournament on Friday at Arcanum Field in Northampton.

The Vikings finished their season 21-3, champions of the small school division and Western Mass. Class C runners-up. Smith Voc lost in the Round of 32 of the MIAA Division 5 state tournament last week, but rallied with state vocational tourney wins over Pathfinder (semifinals) and Old Colony.

Visiting Old Colony (10-11) stormed out to a 3-0 lead with a three-spot of unearned runs in the top of the first inning on Friday. But Smith Voc starter Marshall Ingram was lights out from there, as he earned the victory with a complete-game effort on the mound. Ingram struck out three and walked three to go with just three hits in a 99-pitch effort.

Smith Voc got one back in the bottom of the first and one more in the third to pull within 3-2. That set the stage for the bottom of the sixth, where the hosts plated a pair of runs to take their first lead of the game. Ingram tossed a scoreless seventh to seal the deal and send the Vikings to a state vocational crown.

Cayden Payne had two hits and scored a run for Smith Voc, while Ingram tripled and scored and James Lavallee doubled, drove in a run and scored one of his own. Rosco Palmer also had a hit and an RBI in the win, while Dawson Kelly came through with an RBI single and Carter Blanchette also had a hit and scored a run.

Chase Lafountain struck out 10 in a complete game outing for the visiting Cougars.
