SOUTHAMPTON — The Southampton Police Department is warning community members to be aware of an ongoing scam. Residents have reported receiving an email detailing their name, phone number, address and an image of their home.

The author of the email demands bitcoin payment, and threatens to divulge the recipient’s browser history if said payment is not received.

The email includes claims that its author has footage of the recipient “doing embarrassing things in your house,” and that they have gained “total accessibility to your device.”

Residents are advised not to respond to this email, and to contact the Police Department if they have any concerns upon receiving it.
