NORTHAMPTON — A young Northampton man was struck and killed Monday evening on Interstate 91 near Exit 25, authorities have confirmed.
At roughly 9:40 p.m. on Monday, State Police say the crash was reported, drawing State Police detectives attached to the Northwestern district attorney’s office and state troopers with the Crime Scene Services and Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Sections, as well as Northampton Fire Department personnel to the on-ramp for I-91 south at Exit 25. According to State Police, troopers found that a tractor-trailer had struck a pedestrian, reporting that the victim was suffering life-threatening injuries.
State police cruisers closed the on-ramp in response, securing the area for an investigation that is still ongoing.
The tractor-trailer driver, a 56-year-old man from Montreal, remained on the scene. The victim, a 19-year-old city man, was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.
No charges have currently been filed. The office of the chief medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
