HATFIELD — A West Dover, Vermont, man and a North Adams man were arrested on weapons charges after the vehicle they were traveling in on Interstate 91 was stopped Wednesday, according to State Police.
Samuel Roman Cruz, 35, of West Dover, was arrested on charges of possession of a firearm without a license and possession of ammunition without an FID card after a black bag containing a 9mm Ruger handgun and a loaded 10-round magazine were found on the floor of the red Fort Mustang, police said.
Thomas Superneau, 35, of North Adams, was arrested on a charge of carrying a dangerous weapon after a set of brass knuckles were found in his jacket pocket, police said.
Both were passengers in the vehicle that was speeding and traveling in the left lane while not passing slower vehicles. They were booked at the Northampton barracks.
The operator of the Mustang is being summoned to court on a charge of attaching license plates. The driver and a third passenger were escorted off the highway, and the vehicle was towed.
The stop was executed by Trooper Timothy Martin and backed up by Trooper Phillip Jett. Both troopers searched the vehicle after the driver allowed them to do so after explaining he didn’t have a proper bill of sale, title or registration, and the displayed license plates did not belong to him.
