Youth basketball: Northampton 7/8 Suburban League boys team moves to 13-0

Tege Madera led a balanced scoring attack with 12 points, as 11 different players found the scoresheet in Northampton B’s 64-44 win over Longmeadow in a Suburban League grades 7 and 8 boys basketball game last week.
Northampton, which improved to 13-0 on the season, received a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds from Joshua Cole. Jahir Sanchez and Mason Tait each notched nine points in the win, and William Brady added six points and four boards.
Three players scored in double figures one week earlier, as Northampton handled Tantasqua, 48-38.
Cole (12 points), Madera (11) and Sanchez (10) all paced the ’Hamp offensive attack, and Theo Wojcik tossed in five points on the night. Tait and Roan Steed each registered four steals to aid the defensive effort.
Emme Calkins went for 11 points and eight rebounds, and Liv Joensen added 10 points with seven boards to help Northampton notch a 42-20 win over Holyoke in a Suburban League grades 7 and 8 girls basketball game last week.
Anna Oravec (8 points, 5 rebounds) and Makayla Fydenkevez (8 points, 4 rebounds) also contributed offensively in the win.
Later in the week, Northampton dropped a 27-22 decision to Belchertown despite five points apiece from Fydenkevez and Neoma Lane. Liv Busone (3 points, 14 rebounds) and Rose Fallon (3 points, 3 rebounds) also aided Northampton.
In grades 5 and 6 action last week, Northampton rolled to a 42-19 win over Holyoke thanks to a 25-point, 7-rebound outing from Keira Cole.

Later in the week, Northampton took down Westfield, 33-26, thanks to 12 points from Spears. Gina Van Stee also went in double figures with 10 points and 10 boards, while Zora Nteta and Ella Sasser scored three points apiece.
On Feb. 8, Northampton fell to Belchertown, 32-28, despite 11 points and 10 rebounds from Cole.
