As we begin the limited use of artificial intelligence in our newsroom, our commitment to accuracy, transparency and service to our communities remains unchanged. AI tools enable us to work more efficiently by suggesting headlines, helping to summarize stories and organizing public information — but they are not a replacement for human judgment, reporting or editing. With AI tools, our written work will become more accessible to more people through features like digitally voiced articles.

Other than suggesting headlines and story excerpts and facilitating the basic editing of community-submitted press releases, any content created primarily by AI will be clearly disclosed to readers, either with a tagline or an editor’s note. Internally, we require clear communication among staff about AI use in any part of the reporting, writing or editing process.

Every piece of information generated by AI must be reviewed and verified by a reporter or editor before publication. We continue to hold all our journalism to the same editorial standards of accuracy, fairness and accountability.

Our newsroom and business departments — including advertising — are guided by transparency, accuracy, community service and exploration. These principles will help us make thoughtful, ethical decisions as this technology evolves.

Our mission remains the same: to serve our communities with trusted local news and information that strengthens civic life in Hampshire County .
