Their crew and another worked through the daylong rain to prepare several sites for the sculptures, collaborations between Grinspoon and other artists, with the intention of installing them Friday.

Juliet Merritt, 8, of Conway jumps through one of 20 stations in an Interactive Math Walk chalked out on the sidewalks of downtown Northampton on Tuesday. The daylong event, in support of Nice Tuesdays in Northampton, was put on by the Western Massachusetts Math Partnership and The Community Classroom tutoring center. Juliet was on a visit to Northampton with her family, including her father, Michael Merritt, who happens to be a math teacher at Amherst Regional Middle School.

About 60 friends and supporters of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Hampshire County gather inside a heart-shaped luminaria at Childs Park in Northampton to take part in “This Little Light of Mine” commemorating the start of Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month on Thursday, April 1, 2021. The luminaria, which also took place on the steps of the Hampshire County Courthouse and at individual homes, was hosted by the CAC and Northwestern District Attorney David Sullivan and incorporated 2,000 luminaria to represent the number of child abuse survivors the center has served since moving to its Elm Street location in 2006.

Pots of daffodils and hyacinths fill a table at the Northampton Community Farm in Florence on Friday. Fred Beddall of Northampton, who was helping tend some seedlings in the nearby Sawmill Herb Farm greenhouse, at right, said the flowers were dropped off by Smith College, a benefit from a surplus of bulbs. The sight caused Beddall to quote by heart the last lines from “For Nothing” by beat poet Gary Snyder: “A flower for nothing; an offer; no taker; Snow-trickle, feldspar, dirt.”
