The Amherst Regional middle school ultimate frisbee team placed first in the Middle School State Tournament in Devens on Sunday and are the new state champions.

Are you ready for the ultimate experience? If the answer is yes, plan on joining the Summer Ultimate League of Amherst (SULA) for another exciting summer of ultimate frisbee. SULA, which started in 1995, is celebrating its 30th season and has another year of fun in store over the next couple of months.

Maceo Nteta and Dylan Lawrence-Riddell led the way for a potent Northampton offense on Monday evening at Legion Field in a 14U baseball matchup with Palmer, as the duo combined for six hits and seven RBI. That strong one-two punch helped Northampton defeat Palmer 20-4 in decisive fashion.

The Northampton Parks & Recreation Department is offering fall youth and rec soccer programs for youth entering preschool through sixth grade. Youth soccer (preschool through second grade) will be held on Saturday mornings at Sheldon Field from Sept. 7 to Oct. 26, while rec soccer (third grade through sixth) begins as early as Sept. 4 and runs through Nov. 3.

Registration is open for all of the Northampton Parks & Recreation’s Summer Youth Sports Programs. The Northampton Post 28 Senior Legion baseball team (19U) will be holding tryouts on Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to noon, and again on Saturday, May 10 also from 10 a.m. to noon at Arcanum Field in Florence.

Keller Mahoney matched Lenox’s output by himself Thursday afternoon, as he tallied four goals and added two assists in a dominant showing for the Northampton boys lacrosse team. The Blue Devils used his offensive outburst to cruise past the Millionaires, 9-4, on their home turf and claim a victory in their season opener.

Make it two wins in a row to start the season for the Amherst Regional boys tennis team, as the Hurricanes used two lengthy three-set doubles victories to get past Belchertown, 4-1, at the Amherst Middle School tennis courts on Tuesday afternoon.

The visiting Smith Vocational baseball team scored two runs in the first inning, and that was all the Vikings would need as Kaleb Jorritsma threw a gem on the mound. Jorritsma gave up just two hits and struck out 12 in a complete-game shutout, then reached base four times and added two RBIs at the plate to lead Smith Voc to a 7-0 win over Gateway on Monday afternoon.

The UMass women’s basketball team was in the driver’s seat entering the fourth quarter of its WNIT second round game with Buffalo on Sunday afternoon. Playing its future MAC foe, the Minutewomen led by 16 (61-45) entering the fourth quarter and looked as if they had another postseason win in the bag.
