SOUTH HADLEY — Crews from South Hadley fire and police departments rescued an elderly man from a deep ravine after he tumbled down an embankment behind his home.

South Hadley Fire District 2 Assistant Chief Todd Calkins said police and crews from both South Hadley fire districts responded to an area behind Stony Brook Village Apartment Homes on Mill Street and were able to swiftly remove the man from a stream. Calkins said he did not have any identifying information about the man.

Calkins said the man was taken to a local hospital with apparently minor injuries, but he did not immediately know his condition.
