NORTHAMPTON – A bicyclist was taken to the hospital after he was involved in a collision with a car on New South Street Wednesday afternoon.
The man, whose name has not been released by authorities, was riding his bicycle on Elm Street about 3:20 p.m. Wednesday when he turned onto New South Street, crossed over the center line, and hit a car that was moving at a low rate of speed, according to Northampton Police Capt. John Cartledge.
According to one witness, the man was operating the bike in a manner that was “out of control,” Cartledge said.
The man was thrown from his bike and landed head-first on the pavement. He was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Cartledge said.
Police said they did not have information on the extent on the man’s injuries, and the accident remains under investigation.
