Connor Green scored a game-high 25 points as the Amherst College men’s basketball team beat Tufts, 86-73, on Saturday to advance to the NCAA Division III Final Four.

It’s the third time in the last four years, and seventh overall, that Amherst reached the Final Four.

No. 15 Amherst (26-5) will play No. 2 Benedictine (30-0) Friday at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Virginia.

Tied at 73 with 3 minutes, 32 seconds left Saturday, Amherst closed out host Tufts with a 13-0 run.

Johnny McCarthy added 15 points, while Michael Riopel had 12 points off the bench.

Eric Conklin and David George each had 11 in the win.

Women’s ice hockey

Plattsburgh 5, Amherst 0 — Sabrina Dobbins made 35 saves but No. 6 Amherst (22-3-3) was eliminated in the NCAA Division III Tournament first round by the No. 1 Cardinals (27-1-0).

Men’s Lacrosse

UMass 14, North Carolina 9 — The Minutemen (3-4) outscored the Tar Heels 9-5 over the middle quarters to upset No. 10 UNC (3-3) Saturday at Garber Field.

Tyler Bogart had three goals, while Dan Muller, Brendan Hegarty and Ben Spencer each had two for UMass.

Amherst 14, Bates 9 — Kane Haffey scored four goals as Amherst (3-0) won at home Saturday.

Women’s Lacrosse

UMass 15, UConn 6 — Erika Eipp scored four goals, while Eileen McDonald and Holly Turner each had three as the 19th-ranked Minutewomen (5-1) cruised past the 18th-ranked Huskies (4-1) on the road Saturday.

Eipp scored all her goals in the first half as UMass took a 12-2 lead into the break.

Bates 8, Amherst 7 — Kate Wyeth scored three goals but visiting Amherst (1-1) fell on the Saturday.

Smith 17, Centenary College 5 — Emily Biggs (Florence) had two goals and one assist, while Chloe Harris, Ray Silveria and Julia Hamilton each had four goals as the Pioneers (2-2) cruised Sunday.

Baseball

Amherst 3, Plymouth State 2; Amherst 7, Plymouth State 2; Amherst 13, North Park 4 — Yanni Thanopoulos had five hits and four RBIs in Saturday’s win over North Park.

Army 6, UMass 5; Army 10, UMass 3; UMass 6, Army 2 — Dylan Morris (RBI), Vinny Scifo (two RBIs) and Jon Avallone (RBI) each had two hits as the Minutemen (1-5) won their first game on Sunday in Tampa, Florida.

Morris had two hits in each game of Saturday’s doubleheader.

Softball

Mercer 6, UMass 0; Rutgers 8, UMass 0 (5); LIU Brooklyn 5, UMass 1 — Erin Stacevicz had three combined hits but the Minutewomen (5-13) were shut out in their Sunday doubleheader at the FAU Tournament in Boca Raton, Florida.

Whitney Cooper had two hits and an RBI in Saturday’s loss.

Amherst 7, Babson 1; Amherst 5, New England College 3 — Brianna Cook had a combined five hits and three RBIs as Amherst swept its Saturday doubleheader in Winder Garden, Florida.

Smith College 7, Fitchburg State 1; Smith 12, Lasell 3; Ohio Wesleyan 6, Smith 2; Wittenberg 8, Smith 3 — Emma Kraus had six hits, six RBIs and three runs scored as the Pioneers (2-2) swept Sunday in Clemont, Florida.

Tori Brown had two hits against Wittenberg and Joanna Giodana had two against Ohio, Saturday.

Women’s Track and Field

NCAA Division III Indoor Championships — Mount Holyoke senior Camille Coklow placed third (school record 7.62 seconds) in the 60-meter dash to earn All-American honors Saturday.

NCAA Division I Indoor Championships — UMass junior Heather MacLean placed ninth (4:43.29) in the mile Saturday to earn second-team All-American honors. MacLean is the first indoor All-American in the 40-year history of the program.

Men’s Track and Field

NCAA Division III Indoor Championships — Amherst College sophomore Mohamed Hussein placed seventh (14:30.43) in the 5,000-meter run to earn All-American honors Friday.
