Maura E. Abbot was named to the fall semester dean’s list at Fairfield University, Fairfield, Connecticut. 

Colgate University 

The following students have received the dean’s award for academic excellence at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York.

Amherst: Erin O’Connor, an undeclared major, class of 2019; Jessica Nuthmann, an English major, class of 2017; and Kailey Tobin, a Biology-undeclared major, class of 2019. All three students graduated from Amherst Regional High School.

Northampton: Alec Schwab, a classical studies major, class of 2016, and a graduate of The Loomis Chaffee School, and Jonah Kudler-Flam, an astronomy/physics major, class of 2017, and a graduate of Northampton High School.

South Deerfield: Peter Stobierski, a mathematical economics major, class of 2018, and a graduate of Deerfield Academy.

Emmanuel College

Meaghan Carey of Chesterfield and Emily Larkin of Williamsburg participated in the Emmanuel College’s annual Alternative Spring Break. ASB is a week-long service trip held during the college’s traditional spring break that bridges volunteer work with education and reflection on larger social issues.

Carey served in Phoenix, Arizona with two organizations, Andre House of Hospitality and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, where group members perform tasks such as office work, laundry, clothes-sorting and distribution, food preparation and service and gardening, as well as provide a local family with a home makeover through St. Vincent de Paul’s Fresh Perspectives program.

Larkin served in Boston, where the group stayed at the college’s Notre Dame Campus in Roxbury and focused on food justice and access and completing service projects with local organizations.

The group also planted herb and vegetable seedlings for the campus’ urban garden, hosted a “Cooking Matters” program, and conducted an workshop on healthy eating at a local school. 

Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter   School

Four students from Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter   School have been recognized for their outstanding achievement in writing with Scholastic Art & Writing Awards presented by The Boston Globe and The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. 

Freshman Kenyatta Williams received a Silver Key Award in the poetry category. The Springfield resident was honored for his work titled “Pastor KenZulu.”

 Two seventh-grade students were awarded honorable mentions in the poetry category. Tessa Stanforth from Amherst was recognized for her work titled “Pronouns, Equality,” and Siobhan Toole of Longmeadow was honored for four poems titled “A Happy Dance,” “A Modern Day Fairy Tale,” “Phases of the Moon,” and “How Fragile the Heart.” 

 Seventh Grader Ian Yu of Amherst was recognized in the science fiction/fantasy category for his work titled “How I Met Night.”

Salve Regina University

The following residents were named to the fall semester dean’s list at  the university in Newport, Rhode Island.

Belchertown: Carly Hall, a freshman majoring in secondary education and history, and Hannah Lussier, a sophomore, majoring in global studies.

Easthampton: Jeffrey VanOudenhove, a senior majoring in business administration.

Florence: Emma Buckley,  a freshman majoring in social work

South Hadley: Amanda Lachat, a senior majoring in elementary and special education; Michelle Karparis, a junior majoring in secondary education and English, and Nathaniel Flachs, a sophomore majoring in theatre arts.

Sunderland: Megan Sullivan, a senior majoring in psychology.
