Pedestrians need to act responsibly on roads

OK, enough is enough! It always seems to be the fault of the other guy.

I have been in business in Northampton for almost 40 years and seen a great deal of change, most for the better. We have a great Police Department, a great Department of Public Works and City Hall is for the most part trying to do the right thing.

I have seen too many people crossing the street looking down rather than left to right. I see people with head phones on crossing the street and think that everyone is going to stop just because they are in the crosswalk. This is the real world people: stop, look, listen and then walk.

The same goes for riding a bike. You may be the best rider in the world but the person in that car on their cell phone just didnโ€™t see you. Bang and your in the hospital and hopefully not the grave.

Whatever happened to being responsible for your own actions or lack of the same. Caution signs, flashing lights and the like do no good if John Q pedestrian pays no attention.
