GREENFIELD – An early morning fire badly damaged a building on Pierce Street Wednesday morning, but firefighters say no one was injured.

Greenfield Fire Captain Kyle Phelps said the department received a call from the first floor tenant at 10 Pierce St. around 1:14 a.m.

Upon arrival, they encountered heavy flames from the building’s second floor, triggering a second alarm.

All of the occupants appeared to be out at the time. Firefighters from Turners Falls, Brattleboro, Bernardston, Deerfield, South Deerfield, Erving and others helped fight the fire, while Northampton, Montague Center and Northfield provided station coverage, Phelps said.

Firefighters finished at the scene around 5 a.m. A cause had not yet been determined, but the state Fire Marshal’s Office was on scene investigating, Phelps said.
