AMHERST – A 19-year-old Sheffield man is in critical condition at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield after being ejected from the vehicle he was driving on Sunderland Road early Thursday morning, according to police.
The man, whose name is not being released, was driving on Sunderland Road, also known as Route 116, near the Sunderland town line when the vehicle went off the road and struck a tree, said Detective Lt. Ronald A. Young.
No one else was in the vehicle and no other injuries were reported.
Speed may have been a factor in the accident, Young said.
The crash remains under investigation.
