NONVERBAL COMMUNICATIONย โ€“ย ย Wednesdays, noon to 1:30 p.m.ย starting April 13.ย Taught by Professor Douglas Raybeck, this course is a study of the subtle socialย structuring underlying social interaction,ย much of which is nonverbal. Students are exposedย to the biological and psychological bases and the cross-cultural variations thatย exist. ย Free, must pre-register.ย 

SONGBIRDS โ€“ย Naturalist John Root will explain how to attract songbirds to your property, and shareย photographs and recordings ย April 29, at 1 p.m.ย Learn how to recognize songbirds by their songs and calls and discover intriguing facts about their behavior.ย

EASTER BONNET CONTESTโ€“ย As a child, did you wear a new chapeau for the spring holiday?

Please bring a photo of yourself wearing your bonnet in an envelope to the Enrichment Center with your name written on it. We will display the photos through April and draw oneย name to winย a gourmet candy basket on May 1.

If you donโ€™t have a photo of yourself, make your own bonnet. We will take your photo here and post it along with the others for a chance to win.

BRAIN HEALTH WORKSHOP โ€“ย April 14,ย 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A presentation on how nutrition, exercise and other brain- healthy habits can reduce the risk of Alzheimerโ€™s, MCI, andย other neurodegenerative diseases. ARTISTs OF THE MONTH

Reception Monday, 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. for a local trio of photographers โ€” Elaine Findley, Debby Slavitt and Shoshana Zonderman โ€” the โ€œPix Chix.โ€ They met in Jim Spencerโ€™s digital photo class at the center and formed their group two years ago. Each has shown work in shows around New England, winning awards most recently at the Belchertown Fair. Travel locations include Italy, England, France, Ireland, Costa Rica, Peru, New Zealand, Guadeloupe, and New York City.

โ€‹KARATEย โ€”ย A way to train yourself mentally, physically and emotionally. Classes in conjunction with Northampton Karate. Instructor Fred Contrada has taught karate for many years. Session held Tuesdaysย  through April 26 at 2 p.m. The cost is $30 for Northampton senior residents and $35 for non-resident seniors and those ages 55-59. Pre-registration is requested.
