JOB WORKSHOPS: Three job-hunting workshops at the Amherst Survival Center, held in advance of an April 20 job fair, begin Monday.
The workshops will occur the next three Mondays from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the center, 138 Sunderland Road.
The first workshop Monday is titled “Resumes and the Job Application Process,” followed by “Interview Skills” on April 11 and “Following Up After the Interview and Job Applications” on April 18.
“This will be the fourth time the center has offered these workshops and hosted a job fair, and we are hoping that these upcoming sessions are as successful as the prior ones,” said Executive Director Mindy Domb.
The center also offers weekly individualized job search assistance from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays, which has assisted 72 people since November 2014, and 16 have secured employment.
WATER MAIN FLUSHING: Water mains will be flushed by the Department of Public Works Water Department beginning Monday.
The flushing will last for four weeks and run daily until 4 p.m. The work will start in Pelham and continue toward Amherst center, with other areas of Amherst to follow.
During the work, residents may notice water discoloration and low pressure. Running water should clear up the discoloration.
For more information, call the DPW at 259-3050.
STROKE AND APHASIA OUTREACH: Communication disorders students at the School of Public Health and Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts will host the fifth annual Walk and Roll for Stroke and Aphasia on Saturday.
The event begins at 11 a.m. with check-in at the Cape Cod Lounge in the Student Union.
Cost is $10 per person, or $15 for the walk and a red stroke awareness bracelet.
Participants will take a one-mile loop around campus to raise awareness and money to benefit local outreach related to strokes and aphasia, an impairment in the ability to speak, understand, read or write usually caused by stroke
DIGITAL IMAGES OF PROPERTY: The assessor’s office has issued a statement notifying residents that the city has hired Tyler Technologies to gather digital images of all residential, commercial and industrial properties in Northampton.
Most of these images will be taken from the public right of way. In the case of long driveways or other impediments, it may be necessary to access the property only for the purpose of photographing the buildings. Posted driveways will not be attempted but owners may be contacted at a later date.
The project is expected to be complete by June.
Tyler employees and their vehicles are registered with the assessors and the Police Department. They will display an orange placard in the rear window of the vehicle and a magnet on the door of the vehicle stating that they are working on behalf of the Northampton assessor’s office, which can be reached at 413-587-1200.
“LIES OF THE LEFT”: Star Parker, a nationally known black conservative and founder of the Center for Urban Renewal and Education, will talk about “The Lies of the Left” at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Weinstein Auditorium of Wright Hall at Smith College.
The event is sponsored by the Smith College Republican Club and the Smith College Bipartisan Coalition, in conjunction with the Young America’s Foundation.
Parker’s talk is open to the public and no tickets are required to attend.
