I am perplexed by the recent articles in the paper by people who complain about Sen. Bernie Sanders that he offers only simplistic solutions to the problems facing our country. I have noted that even the New York Times’ eminent economic guru espouses the same line.
We are told that the issues and solutions are too complex for simple folk to understand, therefore we must not trust what Sanders is telling us. There is no way, we are told, that the ideas he proposes could fit into our world and be paid for by the structure of our society as it presently exists. They are right.
However, isn’t that exactly what Sanders wants us to do? That is, to change the structure of our society in which a small percent of it owns or holds most of it.
Of course his ideas about how our society could change could not take place until the structure is changed such that the wealth of this country is more evenly divided.
What makes opponents of this idea so afraid of revolution? Isn’t that how our country became free? Isn’t that how emancipation came about? Isn’t that what Jesus did in the temple of the money lenders?
I believe that Sanders’ revolutionary ideas belong in this company.
