GREENFIELD — State Attorney General Maura Healey will deliver this year’s Henry Steele Commager lecture at Greenfield Community College on Monday.

During her time as attorney general, Healey has tackled issues including prescription drug abuse, health care costs, workers rights and student loans. Healey also challenged the federal government’s Defense of Marriage Act as head of the attorney general’s civil rights division.

As attorney general, she has advocated for marriage equality and in support of bills to fight discrimination against transgender people. Healey has been recognized by a number of organizations for her leadership on civil rights.

In 2010, she was awarded the American Constitution Society’s Award for Public Service. In 2012, she received the Massachusetts LGBTQ Bar Association’s Award for Public Service and has been honored by the Boston Bar Association and with the Equal Justice Coalition’s Award for Legal Aid.

This year’s lecture is the 14th annual. The series commemorates Commager, a long-time historian and professor at Amherst College, and focuses on democracy, civil liberties and civil rights.

The series is funded by the college’s book sales, part of which are used to create an endowment. Commager’s widow, Mary, chooses the speaker each year.

The event will be held on at noon at the GCC Main Campus, Stinchfield Lecture Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
