CHICOPEE – A record low temperature was recorded at Westover Air Reserve Base Wednesday morning, the coldest April 6 measured at the base, according to officials.
The temperature reached 13 degrees, which is well below the previous record of 18 degrees set on that day in 1943 and 1970.
The record-setting temperatures come amid an unseasonable cold snap and snowstorm in recent days.
Temperatures are expected to climb throughout the week into the 40s with rain and patchy fog in the Northampton area Thursday and Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
A high of 55 has been forecast for Thursday this week.
